UPDATE: This has been confirmed as a hoax.
An Indian man is suing Unilever after seven years of using a deodorant manufactured by the company failed to deliver him a girlfriend.

Vaibhav Bev has been a user of Axe deodorant since 2002. Bev claims that the company’s promotional material gave him the expectation that by using their products, marketed variously around the world as Axe and Lynx, he would be able to find a girlfriend; but for seven years they failed to do so.

In his own words:

I used it for seven years but no girl came to me.

For the “depression and psychological damage” that has resulted from his disappointment, Bev is seeking $100,000 in damages.

Unilever has reportedly been advised to settle the matter out of court by Indian compensation lawyer Ram Jethmalani.

Jethmalani’s reasoning for this was that the argument that Bev was unable to find a girlfriend because he was unattractive could be easily countered:

In fact, some of the best-looking women have been known to marry and date absolutely ghoulish guys.
