British Airways Passengers Made to Hold it When All Plane’s Toilets Fail

Talk about your long, uncomfortable flights.  Nothing is worse than having to cross your legs at 40,000 feet because all of the on-board toilets aren’t operational.

Which is exactly what happened during a British Airways flight from Heathrow to the Cayman Islands last Wednesday.  Initially four of the six on-board toilets were clogged and non-functioning, forcing the 169 passengers and nine crew members to share the two remaining bathrooms, one of which was the loo in the exclusive Club World cabin.  FYI…it was a 12-hour flight.

That worked out OK for a while–until the remaining two toilets also malfunctioned.  It was at this point, with zero working toilets on board, and the plane still 2.5 hours away from Nassau, that the pilot advised everyone on board to stop drinking so that they could hold out for the remainder of the flight…which is easier said than done.

British Airways has said that the toilets became clogged because they had not been serviced at Heathrow.  Eventually the tanks were emptied in Nassau, something that should have been done when the plane was still in England.

The airline has apologized to all the passengers and their bladders.
