God seems to also not be a fan of Justin Bieber [Westboro Baptist Church]

If you are wondering about our recent coverage of Phelps et al. it does not represent a change of direction – it is merely a reflection that right-wing Christianity’s most lunatic fringe is increasingly finding targets in popular culture; on the 28th of July the target of their hate-filled (but peaceable) demonstration will be Justin Bieber.

I must admit that I have mixed feelings about this, because like the congregation of the Westboro Baptist Church, I am no fan of Justin Bieber – and am omnipresent, omniscient god would have heard enough different music to spot lameness where he or she sees it. Still, while I won’t fall for young Justin’s boyish good looks and questionable musical talent – I don’t wish him an eternity of pain and anguish.

From Westboro Baptist Church:

Justin Bieber has a platform given to him by God to speak to this world; he has a duty to teach obedience by his actions and words. He refuses to do that because he knows his concert halls would be empty! So, he teaches you to sin and rebel against God’s commandments. That is how he got to pose with Anti-Christ Beast Obama last December while performing at Christmas in Washington. He and Obama are of one mind and they are leading this nation to hell!

Before Bieber, the picket signs will be raised once again at Lady Gaga. What they say about her is too vile and upsetting for me to repeat here.

The comment about Bieber is rife with rampant sour grapes and racisim.

He is one of the fastest rising young stars of all time and whether you like his music or not, to put him down in this way is: Sour grapes is an expression originating from the Aesop Fable The Fox and the Grapes. It refers to envious behaviour, especially pretending to not care for something one does not or cannot have, called cognitive dissonance.(from wikipedia)
To put down our president in this manner whether you like him or not has an odor of racism.

Like I said, I don’t follow – did you read the article – or just the title. I don’t think either Bieber or the President was put down by the article.

That is a quote taken from the site of the Westboro Baptist Church. We don’t subscribe to their beliefs – the quote was simply included to illustrate their craziness.

Westboro Baptist Church is not Baptist or even a Christian church anymore than a Wican Coven is. It is so far off the map that it is not even Left or Right wing. They are living in their own little world. Too bad they refuse to stay there.
