Grandmother of seven saved by the wisdom of Bear Grylls

An Australian woman escaped from a car that was being swept away by flood waters thanks to the sagely advice of television survivalist Bear Grylls.

McLaren, a grandmother of seven, ran into trouble during a flash flood in Ipswich, Queensland after seeing a 4×4 successfully negotiate the flooded road:

Thinking it was safe, I started to cross and in an instant, this wall of water hit the side of the car and washed me into the trees.

Things could very easily have turned lethal, had McLaren not been up-to-date on her Man Vs. Wild:

I remember what that Bear Grylls said to do if your car got in a flood. I’d turned the ignition off, but remembered to turn it back on so I could open the back window and crawl out.

McLaren managed to reach the roof of the car, which was soon engulfed by the flood waters, leading her to seek refuge in a nearby tree. Locals came to her aid and rescued her with the help of a small boat. [News-Mail via news.com.au]
