Cyndi Lauper gives impromptu “a cappella” interpretation at the airport.

Last week, when her flight to Chili was postponed due to a long week-end holiday in Argentina, Cindy Lauper gave an “a cappella” interpretation of her 1980s smash hit “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” at the Jorge Newbery in Buenos Aires. Onlookers, both travelers and employees pitched in and sang along with her, cheering her on and showering her with applause.

As a musician, songwriter and producer myself, just by looking at the microphone (intercom) used, I can tell you she is not auto-tuned.

Having said that, I’m glad it wasn’t Tom Jones singing Sex Bomb in at JFK airport, or he might have gotten arrested. I wonder what would happen if a crowd aboard a US flight, spontaneously erupted – I hesitated to use the expression “Burst into song…” – in a rendition of The Star Spangled Banner which contains the lyrics: “Bombs in the air…”

Hey, the Daily Mail used the phrase defuse (although they erroneously spelled it diffuse) to describe the situation. All these references to explosives has made me bust a chop with laughter. Argh…That one hurt even as I thought it!
