Chinese restaurant serves Koala

Want some rice with your Koala burger?

To the offense of many Australian and other lovers of the cute looking Koala, a restaurant in Guangzhou, southern China, allegedly offers the furry feast to those who desire to eat it.

When you go into the restaurant you see the live Koala waiting for your order. Then it’s slaughtered in the back and cooked to your liking.

The cost – 139 RMB, or $22, per 500 grams – is considered cheap for the exotic meat. Making some think the animals the unnamed restaurant is serving is a different type of tree bear.

According to online magazine the cost of 139 yuan would be “underselling one of the [all-time] bestselling trinket animals.”
