Turning doggie doo into gold in Taiwan

It’s one of the weirdest campaigns to get people to clean up after their pets but if it works who cares?

Officials in New Taipei City are offering residents a chance to win bars of gold in exchange for bags of doggie do. It started on August 1st and people have until October to bring their dog poop to assigned cleaning teams. Each time they do gets them a ballot for the gold bar draw.

There’s three gold bars they can win: valued at $2,100US, $624US and $416US.

Garbage bags are free and dispensed around the city and there are “poo patrols” on the look out.

It’s not the first time the Taiwanese tried to make poop cleaning a fun activity. Two years ago in Taichunch officials offered people shopping vouchers valued at $100 Taiwanese for scooping their poop… but people just laughed.

Hopefully their attempts to turn the poop into gold will be better received. [Weird News Asia]
