Some 29,000 applicants that were rejected by the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) were accidentally sent an email welcoming them to the university last Monday.
According to UCSD admissions director, Mae Brown, the email was supposed to only go to the 18,000 students that were accepted. An apology was made and less than two hours later an email was sent out to the unsuccessful applicants explaining the error, however, that has not stopped the university from being plagued with calls from parents, students and counselors alike, asking whether they had reversed an initial decision to deny enrollment.
Brown claims that the error occurred because the rejected applicants were sent to the wrong database and then automatically mass mailed. [CBS]
