As about 50 Carabinieri police closed in on the small flat where convicted murderer Giuseppe Setola was hiding out, he slipped through a trapdoor into sewers beneath his dwelling and escaped; leaving his wife to face the music. It took police such a long time to break through the trapdoors that he and a bodyguard escaped.
Setola is thought to be the boss of the Camorra crime syndicate and is alleged to have ordered the killings of six African immigrants in Naples. He first escaped custody when he was granted house arrest so that he could receive treatment for an eye problem. [Sky News]
