Indira Gandhi’s Grandson Faces Charges For Hate Speech

gandhiVarun Gandhi, grandson of Indira Gandhi Gandhi (the man who liberated India from the British through non-violent protest) is facing charges for a speech that he made that called for fellow Hindu Nationlists to, “cut the head of Muslims.” He went on further to add that they (Muslims) “have scary names like Karimullah, Mazullah” and “if you meet them at night you will be scared.” The 29-year-old, who strongly refutes claims that he made divisive statements, is facing charges for “causing enmity among people on religious grounds.” [The Age]

Uh, the story is humorous or bizarre if true . . . too bad it isn’t. This dude is the grandson of Indira Gandhi, the former prime minister of India. Oh yeah, neither this guy nor the late Ms. Gandhi is/was related to “Gandhi” this article references.

Right you are Neal, I am embarrassed to admit that I dropped the ball on that one; more particularly so because I grew up on the sub continent, right next to the Indian border.
