Thirty-eight-year-old Kelly Coffman-Lee had her application for a customized numberplate reading “ILVTOFU” refused for being obscene.
Department of Revenue spokesperson Max Couch explains:
We don’t allow ‘FU’ because some people could read that as street language for sex.
Coffman-Lee is from a family of strict vegans and stated that she simply wanted to express her love for Tofu. Not possible in Denver, where officials meet regularly to ensure that all number plates remain fit free of gang slang, drug references and obscene terms.
