Fake Waiter Scams Customers Not Once, But Twice

Submitted by JeffG on Saturday, 18 April 2009No Comment | Google Buzz |

Food and BeverageIt appears that the residents of Hoboken, New Jersey are either extremely trusting, or extremely dumb.  How else to explain how a man posing as a waiter scammed not one set of customers, but two sets of customers at two different restaurants this past Thursday.

The crafty suspect is described as being in his 20’s, with spiky hair.  He was casually attired in a black or dark blue button-down shirt, yellow tie, and khaki pants.

His first mark was a pair of women dining at Hobson’s Choice in Hoboken.  Police say he approached the female patrons, asked them if they needed anything else before paying, and accepted their meal payment of $90 before exiting the eatery.

Around two hours later the bogus waiter approached a threesome of female customers at Margherita’s Pizza and Cafe, asked if they were ready to pay, and collected their $96 payment before strolling out of the restaurant.

The three women at Margherita’s became suspicious when the man never returned with their change. [MSNBC]
