Malcolm Palmer, 62, has been sentenced to life in prison for the stabbing murder of his partner Carol Cannom. The Lincoln Crown Court heard that Palmer stabbed his 46-year-old partner repeatedly with a lock knife in front of their 10-year-old son. Their relationship had recently come under strain as Cannom became obsessed with the game Grand Theft Auto, which she played on her son’s Playstation console.
In sentencing Palmer, Judge Michael Heath stated:
There is no justification or excuse for what you did on November 19 of last year. You are of previous good character, an industrious, devoted family man but for some time before November 19 your relationship was under some strain.
I can make no judgment as to why that was, although you felt certain it was because your partner became addicted to playing on a Playstation, sometimes staying up until four or five in the morning.
You felt rejected and unwanted as you were asked to leave the home that you shared with her.
There were suggestions that their relationship began to suffer when the couple moved into a smaller home. There it was said that Cannom would use the couple’s 37-inch plasma television for playing games, while Palmer watched a portable television in smaller room. The couple had been together for 30 years. [Daily Mail]
