Valery Rozov’s jump from a helicopter into a bubbling, simmering and somewhat active volcano in Kamchatka might very well have earned him a posthumous Darwin award for his troubles. Instead the 44-year-old got the ride of his life as he glided gracefully, with the aid of a wingsuit, below the rim of of the 2322-meter Mutnovsky Volcano.

The Russian daredevil encountered strong wind turbulence on his descent, which complicated landing on a slab of ice in the center of the crater. He was then quickly pulled out to avoid overexposure to the poisonous gases all around him.
