PETA Condemns Lutherans For Guinea Pig Recipe

Submitted by C. S. Magor on Wednesday, 22 April 2009No Comment | Google Buzz |

guineapigA cook book produced by the Association of Lutheran Churches in Stuttgart, Germany, entitled Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread has earned the ire of PETA for providing a recipe detailing the preparation of a guinea pig.

The recipe calls for a “good fat guinea pig” which is boiled briefly to make skinning easier then baked and served with sweet potatoes and chili sauce. Dr Edmund Haferbach, PETA’s German spokesman has labeled the book a “disgrace,” while a member of the Stuttgart Guinea Pig Association has branded it “shocking.”

Karin Achtelstetter, a spokesperson for the church group has defended the work stating:

Guinea pig is regarded as a nutritious meal in the Andes. It is easily digested and has a lot of good nutritional content.
