Susan Boyle, 47-Year-Old Scotswoman Silences Critics and Shames Cynics

When 47-year-old Susan Boyle of Scotland walked out onto the stage of Britain’s Got Talent she was met with rolling eyes and comments muttered under breaths. Perhaps it was on account of her sassy brand of optimism or the level of confidence she seemed to exude in the face of such a large and potentially hostile audience, perhaps it was merely her appearance, or the claim that she intended to pursue a music career and hoped to be as famous as Evita star Elaine Page.

Whatever doubts people had, however, were shot to pieces from the moment that Ms. Boyle began her moving rendition of Les Misérables number, “I Dreamed a Dream“. The YouTube videos of Boyle’s performance have been viewed over 30 million times, collectively.

This author is not usually a fan of reality television, but will certainly be watching what Susan Boyle performs for her next piece. Boyle’s dream of a musical career looks to be inevitable as she has gained attention in the right places; aside from continuing in the Britain’s Got Talent competition she will also be appearing on Oprah in the very near future.

The response was perhaps even more overwhelming than that which greeted 2007 Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts, when her performed Giacomo Puccini’s, “Nessun Dorma” for his first piece and went on to launch a successful music career.
