Dallas Twins Have Different Fathers

Submitted by C. S. Magor on Wednesday, 13 May 2009One Comment | Google Buzz |

overviewA Dallas woman has given birth to two twins fathered by different men. Mia Washington and her fiance James Harrison were surprised to learn that their 11-month-old twins, Justin and Jordan, had different fathers.

Washington and Harrison took the twins to a clinic for a DNA test after noticing that they looked remarkably different. The DNA test revealed what they suspected and she admitted having an affair at the time of conception, before contacting Fox 4 with the story.

While extremely rare, Washington’s situation is not unique, but extremely rare, the medical term is heteropaternal superfecundation. In order for it to occur, two ova must be fertilized within a short time period (hours to a few days) by two different men.

Harrison has forgiven Washington and promised to raise the twins as his own. Although he will go ahead with the wedding, he said that it would take time to rebuild his trust in his fiance.
