A 25-year-old Egyptian man chopped off his own penis because his father would not give him permission to marry a woman of a lower class.
The man, who has not been named, is said to come from an influential family in the poor, conservative southern Egyptian province of Qena. What happened after asking his father’s permission to marry for two years and repeatedly being rejected is best described in the words of an anonymous police official who said that he, “heated up a knife and sliced off his reproductive organ.”
The “victim” was rushed to hospital, but the doctors were not able to reattach his mutilated member. [The Register]
