Six-year-olds’ Nuclear Reactor Sparks Radiation Leak Fears In Western German Town

A mini “nuclear reactor” constructed by two six-year-old boys in the town of Oelde in western Germany led German police to evacuate a street.

The nuclear reactor was actually a computer case with a radioactivity warning sign taped to its side. The boys left their reactor for a short time, but when they returned they were sent away by police.

Police explained in a public statement:

When the boys returned to their ‘nuclear power plant’ from a brief stop at home they were sent away again as the area and a wide radius around it had been cleared and blocked off.

The boys’ parents were unaware of what was happening when residents were ordered to remain indoors as firefighters tested for radiation. It was only when they learned about the operation online that they realized that their boys had been the cause and reported what had happened to the local police station.
