An 11-year-old boy was left with some explaining to do after he faked his own kidnapping to avoid showing his parents his report card.

The boy said that he had been abducted by a man with a gun, who forced him into a “beat-up car” and threatened to kill him as he left Ed White Middle School. He also said that he escaped by jumping out of the car, but was unable to take his bag, which just happened to hold his report card.

After his “escape” he ran to his grandparents’ house, but later confessed to lying. His grandfather made an apology to police.

Sgt. Mark Roberts noted that police found the kidnapping claim suspicious, as he was able to “escape” with his musical instrument but not his bag. The boy has not been charged in relation to the incident.
