A suspected shoplifter is alleged to have been beaten to death by staff at a Walmart store in Jingdezhen, China.

It is reported that the incident occurred when a woman suspected of theft refused to hand her bag to a Walmart employee, claiming that it would be a violation of her privacy. At which point other employees gathered around and proceeded to beat her.

During the assault, the woman was able to use her cell phone to alert her family. Her mother and sister came to the store to find that the staff were still beating her. Despite their pleas, the assault continued until police arrived.

The woman was rushed to hospital, where she died as a result of her injuries a short time later. There have been no reports of any arrests in relation to the incident and what, if anything, the victim stole from the store remains unknown.
