Police Officer Accidentally Shoots Woman and Pit Bull

Witnesses have told how a woman and Sugar, her pet pit bull (pictured), were shot by a police officer who thought the woman was being attacked.

It turns out that the young woman was playing with her pet, in the same manner in which she had often done in the past.

According to Dennis Wallace, a witness of the shooting:

The young lady started hollering and just at that time a police officer was coming down and thought the dog was attacking the lady. I can’t say that I would do anything different. The (officer) drew down and started shooting. I couldn’t say I wouldn’t have done that.

From information that is available it seems that the officer fired at the ground, not at the frolicking pet and owner, however, bullet fragments ricocheted and hit both the woman and her dog.

The young woman, who is described as being about 23 years of age was taken to hospital by helicopter and treated, she has since been released. Sugar was treated by a vet and is expected to recover.
