A 15-year-old student of a Catholic school in Brisbane, Australia was suspended from school after shaving her head for a cancer research fundraiser.

Emily Pridham’s entered the fundraiser because of her own father’s leukemia battle; despite undergoing a bone marrow transplant, he has been given only months to live. For her effort, Emily says that she was banned from Mount Alvernia College until her hair grows back.

In Emily’s words:

Basically my way of coping is to try and help other people going through the same thing.

Her mother, Barbara Pridham offered her views:

I am just appalled that she could be suspended by a Catholic school that promotes joy, respect and community spirit.

Mount Alvernia College claims that Pridham’s suspension was for a breach of the college’s uniform guidelines and also for “ongoing issues.”

Presumably, her shaved head is a breach of the aforementioned uniform guidelines. As for the ongoing issues, one would think they would be a little bit more understanding of a 15-year-old whose father has only months to live.
