A 29-year-old Colorado man who reported that he was attacked by three men is himself facing charges, after he admitted to detectives that he invented the attack in order to save his job.
Aaron Siebers initially claimed that a knife wound to his leg and several superficial cuts on his body were the result of an altercation with “three men dressed in black who were either Hispanic or skinheads”.
Siebers reported the attack from the Edgewater video store where he is employed, five police departments are said to have responded.
A lack of evidence and the fact that there was surveillance tape footage to support the claim that he was attacked raised doubts with detectives. After repeated questioning, Siebers finally admitted that he had made up the story because he did not want to be reprimanded for having ripped his pants.
According to Edgewater Public Information Officer, Steve Davis:
He told investigators that earlier in the day he was on his skateboard and was wearing his company uniform and he fell down and ripped his pants, and was afraid that if he did go into work that he would be reprimanded for that.
Siebers has since been fined for obstructing an officer and false reporting.
