Police Station Robbed By Youths For Marijuana

One of the last places that you would think that had issues with stealing would be a police station, yet a bunch of “local youths” of South Australia’s Christies Beach apparently have been breaking into one of the state’s biggest police complexes to steal cannabis from an evidence storage area.

From the Adelaide Now:

One youth was understood to have been caught in the back of a police ute literally collecting a pile of cannabis, while others have been gathering their stash from the ground around fenced-off industrial storage bins.

“It is ridiculous,” said one South Coast police officer, who would not be identified. “It’s happening every week. They’re (youths) just laughing at us and we’re not going to do anything about it,” the officer said.

It doesn’t take a security expert to figure out the problem with the temporary compound which is believed to hold impounded cars, drugs and other seized items. It has no surveillance cameras and is patrolled by police officers on foot “when they can.” When these officers are seating around drinking coffee and eating donuts, people are cutting their way through the mesh fence and walking into the mother load of Whackytabacky. There is no word if the youths also raid the vending machines for Doritos.

Actually, until a few years ago, South Australia had some very liberal drug laws. They tightened restrictions up a bit but keep things at a happy medium. Users get a fine but not a permanent record. The fine is sort of a quasi-tax without the complications of legalization.
