Florida police are suggesting that an 11-year-old girl and her 15-year-old boyfriend attempted to kill the girl’s mother by setting her bedroom alight while she slept.

Clear Water Police Department Detectives say that the Samantha Broadhead and Jack Ault doused Nancy Broadhead’s bedroom floor with gasoline and fled the house in the mother’s Ford Focus, leaving the room in flames. They believe that the argument might have been started over some cigarettes that Nancy believed the pair had stolen.

Crimesider reports Nancy Broadhead, 47, was woken by her smoke alarm and managed to escape the home. In the process she is said to have been seriously burned and to have suffered from smoke inhalation.

The young couple were arrested a short time later and have been charged with attempted murder and arson.
