Bond Fan Builds Flame-scooter

Stamford, Lincolnshire, UK: Thirty-year-old plumber Colin Furze earned himself some serious badass credentials by building a scooter that is capable of shooting 12-foot flames.

The flamethrower on his 60mph bike is activated by pushing a button on the handlebars. Furze told Daily Mail that he built the flame-scooter because he was tired of people cutting him off.

He went on to explain the upsides and the downsides to the pyrotechnical functionality:

It’s a lot of fun and firing the flames makes me feel like James Bond,’ said the plumber, 30, from Stamford in Lincolnshire. The flames are pretty big and up to 15ft long so you could definitely set fire to someone’s car if you wanted to. The only problem is it can get rather hot if you are riding the moped and blast the flames when the wind is in the wrong direction.

Colin’s initial testing of the device started on a BMX bike. Getting it to work on the scooter, however, created some new challenges:

It was quite tricky to make and the first version wouldn’t fire the flames when the moped was moving. My second attempt kept setting fire to itself, but my third version works really well and I’m very pleased with it.

Colin, persevered and was not seriously injured in the testing phase of the flame-scooter’s creation and he has since improved the device by adding a lever that controls the angle of the flame.

Fortunately for other road users and possibly himself, Colin tempers his destructive creativity with sensibility:

I’ve been told that if I fire the flames while riding on the road it’s equivalent to using a firearm and I could be in a lot of trouble,’ he said. Unfortunately I won’t be able to ride it into the centre of town but it’s a lot of fun and I’ll use it off-road.
