Albuquerque, New Mexico: Albuquerque police have arrested a man who is said to have posed as a police officer in order to get police lights and other items installed in his Crown Victoria.
Albuquerque’s Lights & Sirens reports that 35-year-old Orlando Benjamin Jaramillo initially came to police attention when a business that installs police equipment in law enforcement vehicles phoned the sheriff’s department to report an unpaid debt.
AED North America claimed that Jaramillo claimed to have been a retired State Police Officer and a member of the sheriff’s department reserve unit – it turns out that he wasn’t. Jaramillo was placed under surveillance – then things began to get interesting.
On Thursday an undercover sheriff’s detective is said to have watched Jaramillo use his police lights to get through a traffic signal. The detective allegedly then baited Jaramillo by cutting in front of him and making several quick turns. Jaramillo then pulled over the detective.
After allegedly threatening and yelling at the detective, and demonstrating that he had a gun, Jaramillo was taken into custody. A loaded gun was found on his person, he also had a State Police badge.
Investigators found several more police badges, Tasers and guns in his home.
