Giraffe From Albuquerque Zoo Found Dismembered at Local Landfill

Something tells me that what happened to Kashka, a much loved giraffe from the Albuquerque Zoo, isn’t exactly proper protocol for animal disposal.

Seems Kashka suffered a devastating and debilitating leg injury last week and had to be put down.  As is routine protocol, Kashka’s body was dismembered.

What happened next is not.

Normally the corpse of a deceased animal is taken to a special area at the landfill designated for dead animals.  Kashka’s remains instead were tossed in a zoo dumpster along with the other trash.  Eventually Kaska’s rotting corpse was discovered in the landfill, much to the chagrin of zoo officials and the mayor’s office.

The mayor’s office has said it plans on launching a full investigation into what went wrong.

But hey, it could have been worse–they could have tried flushing Kashka’s body down the toilet.
