Mansion Flats, Sacramento, California: A Mansion Flats home once lived in by convicted serial killer Dorothea Puente is on the market.
Puente initially rented the upper floor of the 1,834-square-foot duplex in 1980 and used it as a base of operations for drugging then stealing checks and valuables from senior citizens. The Sacramento Bee reports that that after a brief stint in jail, she returned in 1985 to rent both floors and rented out rooms to disabled tenants.
In 1988, nine bodies were discovered in the side yard. The home’s history seemingly had an effect on the property value – as it was snapped up for just $155,000 by Richard Vasquez in 2002. Three years later, after some renovations, Vasquez picked up a cool $500,000 for it. Just six months later the new owners sold it on for $560,000.
The global financial crisis would appear to have gotten the better of the last buyer, as the home is now being sold on behalf of Bank of America, who want just $335,750 for it.
