As many as 50 party-goers went medieval on three men who decided to attend a concert in “full Nazi field dress”.
It is believed that the victims of the brutal mass assault were at The Khyber to watch hardcore punk band Murphy’s Law perform. The Nazi link could be the lead singer’s former nom de plume, Jimmy Gestapo – these days he likes to be called Jimmy G.
Philly.com reports that Jimmy G informed the Daily News by email that it might not have been the first time that the Nazi wannabes got their “asses kicked”.
According to Khyber owner Stephen Simons, people inside the club were restrained. There, he said, the three men were “largely ignored and mocked”. When they exited the venue is when things got a little heated.
Simons commented:
I guess being on 2nd Street in SS uniforms on a Friday night is a way to incite a semi-riot.
One witness described up to 50 people unleashing hell on the three men with fists, feet, cue balls and beer bottles. However, there are differing accounts of exactly what transpired and no assaults or hospitalizations were reported.
Simons said it was the first time that anything like this had happened at his club. He also noted that a predominantly gay dance party was held upstairs without incident:
As a Jew, I am totally offended by them wearing the uniforms. But, as an American citizen, I totally uphold their right to dress however they want to dress. There was a man on the second floor wearing a wedding dress. I don’t think he had any problems going out on 2nd Street.
Presumably the famed Philadelphian spirit of brotherly love does not extend to people that dress like Nazis.
