Thirty-five-year-old Gabriella Nagy of Canada is claiming $677,000 in damages from her phone company for invasion of privacy and breach of contract over a 2007 incident that she says was responsible for the break-up of her marriage.
It appears her husband became suspicious of a number that appeared on her phone invoice rather too frequently for his liking. On calling the number, the man at the other end spilled the beans about their secret liaisons – and prompted the husband to leave his wife and children.
Nagy says that the blame for the marriage break-up lies squarely with the phone company, Rogers Wireless. Personally I would have thought her cheating on her husband would have played a part, but she clearly disagrees, saying:
The thing that really hurt me is that it all came out not through my own doing.
Rogers Wireless filed a defense, stating:
The marriage break up and its effects happened, or alternatively, would in any event have happened, regardless of the form in which the plaintiff and her husband received their invoices.
