Not that tattooing a child is ever a good idea—far from it. But to give a little ink to someone else’s kid, well, that’s way, way worse. All that will get you is some much deserved prison time, and the title of “World’s Worst Babysitter…Ever.”
Lee M. Deitrick, a 20-year-old Louisville, Ky. native, was sentenced to three years imprisonment after he plead guilty to tattooing the letter “A” on the buttocks of a 19-month-old child.
It seemed like a good idea at the time.
The child’s mother left her baby with Deitrick and Brandi Nelson, a 17-year-old relative of the child’s, while she went and visited a sick friend in the hospital. It was during this time that Deitrick and his accomplice performed their horrific act.
“I don’t know whose idea it was. It was late in the evening and apparently somebody thought it was a good idea,” said Katie Chawla, assistant Stark County prosecutor.
It would be easy to point some of the blame on the mother for leaving her precious child in the hands of these two dimwits, but apparently Deitrick had watched the child on many previous occasions. The defense attorney noted this, and pointed out that “there was no malice—more of an error in judgment.”
An “error in judgment” is putting it mildly. I think it’s more along the lines of “a monumental act of stupidity by two people who couldn’t light a 3-watt bulb with their combined brain power.” But hey, that’s just me.
