Saving $50 costs $478

Victorian Police in Australia couldn’t believe what they saw when a Shepparton motorist, who declined to pay a $50 delivery fee to have newly purchased furniture transported to his home, was yesterday slapped with a $478 fine by a police officer, left stunned by the driver’s actions.

Shepparton Police Inspector Ian Bull was driving down The Boulevard about 5pm when he saw a vehicle with several boxes of furniture protruding metres out of the car boot and window.

The driver aged in his 30s, who admitted the furniture was hanging out just a little bit, told Insp Bull he was being careful driving the six kilometre distance home from the store.

Insp Bull said the driver should have known better.

This motorist put himself, his front seat passenger, other motorists, cyclists and pedestrians at risk of injury for the sake of saving $50. Is it really worth it? I don’t think so

It makes the furniture rather expensive I’d imagine.
