Tiger escapes en route to vet

A 17-month-old tiger is loose in South Africa after it escaped from the back of a pick-up truck on the way to see a vet.

The pick-up truck was reportedly heading to the town of Springs east of Johannesburg when the 140 kg cat made its break for freedom. The owner of “Panjo”, Rose Fernandes, described the tiger as being very docile – and said that it should be treated like a dog. She said it could be dissuaded from approaching by simply pick up a stick and say “No!” in a loud voice. She also mentioned that meat, especially chicken, would keep him happy.

Police and wildlife experts are using helicopters in the hunt for “Panjo” – who at the time being is still at large. They are urging people to report any sightings.
