Oregon man gives himself an awesome, and legal, new name

And by awesome, I mean awesome—as in Captain Awesome, a name so awesome that it defies awesomeness, which in and of itself is pretty awesome.

Captain Awesome, formerly Douglas Allen Smith Jr. of Eugene, Oregon, decided on his unique name change after drawing inspiration from the television show “Chuck,” specifically one of it’s secondary characters—Dr. Devon “Captain Awesome” Woodcomb.

The unemployed cabinet maker had to convince a judge that he was serious about his name change, and after swearing that he wasn’t he wasn’t going through with the it for fraudulent purposes, was granted the right to be forever be known as Captain Awesome.

Heck, the judge even let Smith Awesome sign his name with right arrow, smiley face, left arrow.  Why you ask?

Because a guy named Captain Awesome signs his name any way he wants.
