Q-Tip lodged in man’s ear ends up being a pearl

And that’s not even the amazing part.  If you’re looking at the picture and wondering why a pearl would be colored brown, well, let me tell you, that’s what happens when a pearl is lodged in a person’s ear.

For 41 years.

Calvin Wright, a 46-year-old gentleman from Athens, Georgia, had been battling a particularly nasty cold that got so bad he took a trip to the hospital.  A nurse who was examining Wright checked his ears, as is customary, and saw what she thought was a Q-Tip.

Turns out it was a pearl that was stuck in Wright’s ear since he was a lad of 5-years-old.  He had caught his sister playing with their mother’s pearl necklace, and when he tried wrestling it from his sister Regina Coleman, the string of pearls broke.  The family thought only one pearl had found it’s way into Calvin’s ear canal, and doctor’s removed that one when Wright was still young.

Nobody had any idea that there was yet another pearl rattling around Calvin Wright’s head—even though family and friends noticed Calvin talked louder than most people, probably because he had some difficulties hearing.  I’ve heard a pearl stuck in your ear canal will do that to you.

The pearl was removed successfully, and Wright plans on keeping the memento, even though the pearl has lost some of it’s luster.  Hopefully he doesn’t go so far as to wrap it up and give it as a Christmas gift because that would just be gross.
