Parishioners filled the Onsta Gryta church in Vasteras, Sweden to capacity on Easter Sunday for the unveiling of a 1.8 meter Lego statue of Jesus constructed from some 30,000 blocks.
The statue was the culmination of 18 months of work by 40 volunteers. While the statue is all white on the outside, the inside is made up of multi-colored blocks; the Lego pieces all came from donations.
Church spokesman Per Wilder stated that the statue is a copy of a work by Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen entitled “Christus,” which is on display in the Danish capital. [CNews]
