Sonic booms get crocodiles ready for sex

A crocodile farm owner believes that the sound of Israeli air force planes breaking the sound barrier near his farm has been causing his animals to get all worked up.

The males have begun sounding their mating calls, David Golan from the Hamat Gadar crocodile farm in the Golan Heights suggests that male crocodiles are mistaking the sonic booms for the mating calls of their rivals.

The apparent increase in excitement has not resulted in extra sex for the crocodiles – Golan reported that they were mating with their usual frequency. [News.com.au]
