Reverend Michael Scruggs likes to get people talking about “real life situations” in his sermons in White Oak, Ohio. None of this, let me preach to you about stuff in the Bible and you sit and listen. No, this Reverend wants people to address things that effect today’s society and find Godly solutions to problems. This is why he uses props like stripper poles and basketballs in his sermons.
It’s all part of the appeal of the Light of the World Ministries church which can pull packed houses at a time where attendance for services is dwindling for others. Discussions include marriage, money and the battle of the sexes. It was that one that he felt needed the stripper pole.
“What Men Want vs. What Women Want” was the name of the sermon, and behind him he had a bed. One side represented what the woman wants in a relationship – neat and tidy, cute and cuddle teddy bears adorn it. On the other you see what men want – a stripper pole, black stilettos, a basketball and video games.
While it may seem strange and offensive to some, the good Reverend doesn’t swing from the pole or sleep in the bed. They are merely conversation pieces to get the congregations talking. According to the Reverend, it’s a “straight up approach” and it seems to be working for him. Source.
