Just to be straight–most people have two kidneys, or even one, depending on the circumstances.
But not Jaswant, a photographer from a small village located in Punjab, India. He’s got five.
Since 2004, Jaswant has undergone three separate kidney transplants, receiving new kidneys from family members, while the non-functioning organs remain inside him.
While this may seem odd, it is in fact quite common to leave the dead organs in the body in order to decrease the risk of death that can arise from removing them.
Since the age of 25, Jaswant has received kidneys from his older and younger sister, and most recently his mother donated a kidney.
For his family’s sake, let’s hope this latest kidney transplant takes. [Weird Asia News]
