Taiwanese last traditional Chinese swordmaker, Kuo Chang-hsi has an interesting way to imbue his creations with spirit, he adds human bones to his furnace.
The bone fulfills more than mere superstition, the phosphorous content results in a higher grade of steel and thus, a better weapon. The swordmaker, whose creations include the “Green Destiny” sword that was seen in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon procures his bones from collectors and sometimes from family members looking for a special way to remember a deceased relative.
