Malaysian Man Mistakes Neighbor For Monkey, Shoots Her

A volunteer security corps member in the state of Pahang is alleged to have accidentally shot his neighbor, thinking she was a monkey, while was in the process of picking fruit from his tree. The shooter is said to have heard a noise in the tree and thinking it to be a monkey, discharged his weapon wounding the woman in the abdomen; she is now recovering in hospital. The shooter has been charged with illegally discharging a firearm, which carries a maximum prison term of two years. [Mercury News]

    As a side note, having witnessed first hand the destruction that a troop of monkeys can wreak on an apple orchard I do consider his excuse plausible.
