What started with a childhood story involving chocolate drops left on the ground to look like reindeer droppings evolved into a marketing exercise that turned reindeer poop into Christmas ornaments.
According to Pantagraph.com, the story came from the director of Bloomington’s Miller Park Zoo, John Tobias. According to family legend, his grandmother would sprinkle the chocolate around the home; it sparked the creative juices of marketing director Susie Ohley and support staff member Katie Buydos and reindeer poo ornaments were born.
The ornaments start with a piece of dried reindeer dung, which is given a coat of clear laquer then painted or rolled in glitter.
The pieces, which have been named “magical reindeer gem ornaments,” cost $5 and come with a certificate of authenticity.
