Chinese Husband Signs Contract Allowing Wife To Beat Him Once a Week

A 32-year-old Chinese man has signed a contract that allows his wife, a kung fu practitioner, to beat him once a week.

The man, who has been identified by the Chongqing Evening News as Zhang, created the contract in an attempt to limit the amount of abuse he suffers at the hands of his violent wife.

In her own words:

I don’t want to beat him, but arguments are inevitable and I can’t help myself.

She explained that prior to the contract she had beaten him as many as three times a week. Zhang’s was originally attracted to his wife, who studied kung fu since childhood, for her “strong and independent temperament”.

Zhang explained that he first felt his wife’s wrath during their six-month courtship:

Before we got married, she had a wild hairstyle and I teased that it made her look like a tigress. During the argument that followed, I said some bad words and I got a taste of her kung fu for the first time.

He believes that his desire to never lose an argument has often seen him end up with “bruises and scars all over”.

Zhang came upon the idea of creating the contract as a means of limiting his wife’s aggression. If she breaches her contract, his wife must return to her parents home for three days.

According to Zhang:

She is very obedient to her parents, and her parents will support me and blame her.

Mrs. Zhang felt that the contract was a good idea, explaining:

Now that we have a contract, I will force myself to drop the use of force.

The Telegraph reports that other aspects of the couple’s marriage seem to be healthy. Although Zhang’s parents pity him for the abuse that he suffers, they were quick to add that they felt that the two were a good match.
