Workmen Dig Pool In Wrong Yard… Then Run Away

An Australian homeowner was left with an $18,000 mistake to tidy up after workmen accidentally dug a giant hole for someone else’s swimming pool in his backyard – then fled the scene after they realized what they had done.

Peter Collard of Brisbane, got a phone call from his real estate agent (he was trying to sell his house) telling him to rush home because two men were in the process of digging up his yard.

In his own words:

The first I heard of it was when my agent rang me and said: ‘There’s someone digging your yard up. You’d better rush home. I rushed home to find this huge mess and about $20,000 (USD $17,700) worth of damage. These guys obviously knew there was something up and took off.

Susan Grantham told The Daily Telegraph that the men simply loaded their backhoe onto a dump truck and left without saying a word.

Unfortunately for Collard, the “accident” is not covered by his insurance policy and police at this stage do not seem to have too many leads, so he is trying to find out if any of his neighbors had recently ordered a swimming pool.
