Patricia Clark,a 51-year-old preacher, was known to play a mean hand of poker – unfortunately for her, one of her friends thought that she was augmenting her skills with some underhanded tactics. She might have died for it.
On the fateful night, she had stopped by at the home of a friend to collect a $300 gambling debt, where a poker game was in progress. What happened next seems to be agreed upon by all concerned. Rosie Morris, 46, is said to have invited Clark to join the game.
The preacher then set about relieving Morris and the other players of their money. In the end, it seemed the strain was more than Ms. Morris could bear – it is alleged that she accused Clark of cheating her and three other players out of an $800 pot. Clark denied the allegations and demanded payment.
According to police, Clark then went to the freezer to get some ice and was shot in the back. It is alleged that the shooter was Morris, who was described as a “friend of 20 years”. Police say that Morris then shot her three more times in the head and chest. Clark died in hospital two days later.
Clark’s husband refutes the claim that his wife cheated:
(She)didn’t cheat and didn’t need to cheat, she’s just very good at cards.
