George Washington’s whiskey gets remade for a good cause

A production run of the whiskey produced using the first president’s recipe is available for the first time since a fire destroyed the facility and with it, the original recipe, in 1814.

A copy of the recipe that had been discovered in his mansion was turned into some of the good stuff at the reconstructed distillery last year. On July 1, a total of 550 12.7 fluid ounce bottles will be sold at $85 a piece at Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens, with proceeds going to local education programs.

There will be free tastings at the event – which are probably a good idea considering the cost ($85 sounds awfully expensive for a 1YO). [UPI]
