A new piece of malicious software doing the rounds on file sharing networks packs a nasty surprise. Kenzero Trojan, which come by way of Japan, gathers information about porn browsing habits (including browser history, favorites, illegally-downloaded porn, and clipboard content) and then uploads said information to a public website – only to be removed upon receipt of payment of $18.
Those that pay the ransom will suffer a worse fate – that of having their credit card information sold on to the highest bidder.
For now, most computer users have little to fear. Kenzero seems targeted almost purely at Japanese users and it is being spread around the Winny file sharing network. It also requires a certain naivety on the part of the user. The Trojan masquerades as a legitimate program. Once installed, a registration screen pops up prompting the user to enter his or her personal details – not a smart thing to do if you are installing illegally downloaded software.
