Jail For Biting Off Boyfriend’s Tongue

tongueAfter telling her boyfriend she loved him, 40-year-old Tracy Davies sunk her teeth into his tongue, severing a chunk. Then, according to his testimony, she behaved like Mike Tyson, displaying it to him like a trophy.

Mark Coghill will now have to spend the rest of his life with a third of his tongue missing, physicians were unable to reattach the severed piece for fear of infection. Despite a entering a plea of not guilty, Davies was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm and sentenced to three years jail.

According to Judge John Evans who presided over the case:

“You inflicted a truly appalling injury upon him. An injury which is better described as being in an animal fashion. The result of the injury upon him was that you severed a third of Mr Coghill’s tongue. The result is that although he is able to speak nonetheless he has experienced other injuries. He has been the victim of the loss of his tongue, a considerable loss of taste and indeed disfigurement.

Its clear you showed precious little remorse for that which has happened. During the trial you denied remembering what had happened. I accept the jury’s verdict and I deal with you on the basis you were too drunk to form the intention but it does not remove the gravity of that which you did.

Thankfully people biting other people’s tongues off is a fairly unusual experience. Apart from when you are drunk you are not a danger to the community although I daresay Mr Coghill, living the rest if his life without a third of his tongue, will continue to regard you as dangerous.
